Lumbini Buddha Temple:NEPAL
Lord Buddha was born in Lumbini, in southwestern Nepal, nearly twenty-five hundred years ago. Since then, the city has always remained the focal point of Buddhism. Today's Lumbini is a small sleepy town in the southwestern Tarai plains of Nepal, where the ruins of the old city can still be seen. The followers of both Hinyana and Mahayana sects of Buddhism revere Lumbini. The restored garden and surroundings of Lumbini have the remains of many of the ancient Stupas and monasteries. A large stone pillar that is said to be erected by the Mauryan emperor Ashoka in 250 BC bears an inscription about the birth of the Buddha. The most important attraction of Lumbini is the holy temple of Maya Devi. The temple has a stone sculpture of Maya Devi in labor pain. The image shows her holding the branch of a tree while Buddha is getting birth. The temple is very popular among the women having some or other fertility problem. The main complex have large stretches of Bo Tree plantations. This the same tree that is shown in the sculpture in the Maya Devi temple. Another variety of the same plant is known as Banyan; the same plant under which Buddha got enlightened. The Bo plantation and a newly planted forest nearby lend an air of tranquility to the surrounding. Lumbini is now being developed under the Master Plan of the Lumbini Development Trust, a non-governmental organization dedicated to the restoration of Lumbini and its development as a pilgrimage site.

Byodo in Buddha Temple: JAPAN

This beautiful Buddhist temple is a replica of the 900-year-old Byodo-In located in Uji, Japan. It is located in one of the most peaceful locations in O'ahu - the Valley of the Temples. The valley is situated against a back-drop of tall cliffs and is landscaped with traditional lush Japanese gardens and koi ponds. Inside the Byodo-In Temple is a nine-foot Lotus Buddha. Outside is a three-ton, brass Peace Bell.
Inside the Byodo-In Temple is a nine-foot Lotus Buddha. It is the largest wooden Buddha carved in over 900 years and is covered in gold and lacquer. Beside the temple is a 5-foot, three-ton brass Peace Bell. The deep tone of the bell sounds a message of calm and peace.
Behind and to the left of the Temple is the Meditation House, a place for private thought and inner peace. Situated against a backdrop of mountains, the Temple is landscaped with traditional Japanese gardens and a 2-acre koi pond.

Simigau Monastery: Dolakha

Simigau Monastery is situated at an altitude of 2000m in Simugau Village of Dolakha. It takes three days walk from Charikot bazar or two days walk from Singati Bazar to reach there. We can go directly by bus within 5-6hrs from Charikot to Singati except monsoon season. Before reaching there, we have to climb up very dangerous vertical hill about 500m high from Chhet Chhet after crossing the Tamakoshi River (Photo below). Chhet Chhet is located at the foot of this hill. But stair steps with hand railing were constructed to climb up this hill. So we can climb up easily but we need to be careful. It takes 1-2hrs to go up this hill. Before construction of stair steps and hand railing, it was highly risky to climb up this hill. We can also view beautiful scenery from the Monastery.

Dharahara Tower-Nepal

The 61.88m (203 ft) high Dharahara is probably the tallest historical monument of the Kingdom. It has been reported in the media that a statue of General Bhimsen Thapa is going to be erected nearby Dharhara. The tower was build by the general in 1825. Now occasionaly Dharahara tower is opened for the public. The climb up the 200-feet tower used to be a thrill to any visitor. The panoramic view of the city from the windows was not less exciting. Entrance for the public was banned following some suicidal incidents. There is a myth about Junga Bahadur, the first Rana prime minister jumping from the tower at the order of the then prince Surendra. Some say he rode on a horse others say that he used a large umbrella to lessen the bumping effect. General Bhimsen Thapa is remembered for the important reforms he made in the Nepalese army. The purpose for the construction of the Dharahara was military. It was used as a watchtower. In case some incidents of national importance occurred, bugles used to be blown from the top floor of the tower. This served to herald the message to the army men to assemble on urgent reason. The tradition of bugle trumpeting is still in practice. The tower is also religiously linked because there is a Shivalinga (the phallic symbol of Lord Shiva) on top floor and a golden spire crowns it.

The 131-meter Kyoto Tower is a significant landmark in the city. Visitors enjoy the panorama view of the city from the top of the tower. There is an 'onsen' public bath in the underground.

Obakusan Mampuku-ji, Kyoto

Obakusan Mampuku-ji is the head temple of the Obaku sect of Rinzai Zen Buddhism, which has 460 branches throughout Japan. The Mampukuji Temple was established in 1661 and it was built in the Chinese Ming style by Ingen (1592-1673), a Chinese priest and refugee from the fall of the Ming Dynasty in 1644. It is one of the few Chinese-style (Ming Dynasty) temples in Japan. Its surroundings are the hills in Uji, south of Kyoto, where tea is grown.

Tsho Rolpa Glacial Lake in Rolwaling Valley, Dolakha

Tsho Rolpa lake (27^o51’N, 86^o29’E) is located in the Rolwaling valley of Nepal at an elevation of 4555m (measured at the field). The lake has been developed only in the last 50 years, as the glacier feeding it has begun to melt rapidly. The trakarding glacier above the lake is retreating at a rate of over 20 meters a year due to rising temperatures. During the field visit, it was observed that the maximum temperature at the lake is about 18^oc at sunny time in the month of August, 2010. The lake is 3.23 km long and 0.5 km wide, and 1.76 km² surface area and contained 86 million m³ water. The lake is considered one of the most dangerous glacial lakes in Nepal.

Improved Watermill

Photographs show the improved watermill installed at Rolwaling away in between Simigau and Kyalchhe of Dolakha District. This watermill is constructed in the remote area of the district at an altitude of about 2500m. Local people of the area use this water mill for the flour production.

दोलखा भीमेश्वर नगरपालिका- २, ३ र ४ को ऐतिहासिक शहर दोलखामा परम्परागतरूपमा प्रत्येक वर्ष 'खड्ग जात्रा' मनाइन्छ । उक्त जात्रा सांस्कृतिक परम्परानुसार विजयादशमीको भोलिपल्ट बिहानदेखि बेलुकासम्म गरिन्छ । सेतो दौरा, जामा र सेतै फेटा गुथेको पहिरनमा जमराको माला लगाई स्थानीय कुसुले बाजागाजाका साथ साना-साना बालकदेखि निकै वृद्ध उमेरकाले तलमाथि खड्ग नचाउँदै नाच्ने परम्परा छ । यस जात्राको शुरूवातका विषयमा निकै रमाइला किम्बदन्ति छन् । किम्बदन्तिका अनुसार दानवहरूले देवदेवी तथा मानिसलाई धेरै दुःख दिन थालेपछि दानवराज महिषासुरलाई कसरी बध गर्ने भन्ने विषयमा देव-देवीहरूको गोप्य बैठक बस्यो । बैठक महिषासुरसँग युद्ध गर्ने निर्णयमा पुग्यो र साइत जुराई युद्धको आरम्भ भयो । युद्ध आरम्भको अघिल्लो दिन देव-दवीहरू विभिन्न बाजागाजाका साथ पूजाका सामग्री लिएर युद्ध- निमन्त्रणाका साथै सहायताका लागि कालिञ्चोक भगवती पुगी आश्वासन प्राप्त गरे । आश्वासन पाएर फर्केपछि देव-देवीले दोलखा शहरको 'राइती' भन्ने ठाउँको तीनधाराअगाडि यज्ञ शुरू गरे । यज्ञ भइरहेको उक्त स्थानमा दानवहरू पुगे र यज्ञमण्डललाई कुल्ची ध्वस्त पारे । यसरी देवता र दानव युद्ध आरम्भ भएको मानिन्छ । उक्त युद्धको अन्तिम दिन तथा विजयादशमीका दिन दानवराज महिषासुरको शीरछेदन गरी देव-देवीले विजय प्राप्त गरेको खुशियाली तथा यसको सम्झनाका लागि खड्ग जात्रा मनाइने प्रचलन शुरू भएको बताइन्छ । यो जात्रा मनाउनका लागि दोलखा शहरको राजकुलेश्वर स्थानबाट केही तल रहेको चक्र डबलीमा नवमीका दिन पुजारीहरूद्वारा चक्रेश्वर बलिराजाको भातको मूर्ति बनाई स्थापना गरी स्थानीय कुसुलेहरूबाट विधिपूर्वक राँगोको बली दिइन्छ । जात्रा मनाउन कालरात्रीका दिन दोलखाको प्रसिद्ध भीमेश्वरमा चार वटा राँगोको बली पूजा दिइन्छ । ती चारमध्ये एउटाको घाँटीको मासु ताछी वा नछिनाइ भीमेश्वर मन्दिरबाट तल त्रिपुरासुन्दरीसम्म पुर्‍याउने चलन छ । घाँटी नछिनाइकन त्यहाँसम्म पुर्‍याउने चलन दानवराज महिषासुरलाई निकै ठूलो यातना दिई मारेको प्रतीक हो भन्ने भनाई बुढापाकाको छ । भीमेश्वरमा राँगा बली दिनुको अर्थ महिषासुर गणको बध गरेको मानिन्छ भने उक्त कार्यलाई दोलखामा बोलिने नेवारी भाषाअनुसार 'हामिल्ठी- तिमिल्ठो' भनिन्छ । टीकाका दिन साइतपारी युद्धमा जानुपर्ने तर त्यसदिन टीका थाप्ने कार्यमा अलमल गर्नुपर्ने भएकाले बेलुका बाजागाजाका साथ युद्ध अभिनय गर्दै महिषासुरको नाममा कुभिण्डो काटिन्छ र एकादशीको दिन बिहानदेखि नै पुनः युद्ध-संग्राम थालिन्छ । युद्ध नाचमा सामेल हुनेमा मूल खड् गधारी र उनका अंगरक्षक, दुईजना युद्धका निमित्त बोलाइएका चेलिबेटीका तर्फबाट तीन जना, मन्त्री तथा सेनापति हुने याकरगठा वंशज र उनका साथ भीम बली बोक्नेसमेत छन् । याकरगठा सेनापतिले उनीहरूलाई खड् ग थमाई युद्धमा प्रस्थान गर्न संकेत गरेपछि बाजागाजासहित राजकुलेश्वर मन्दिरबाट युद्ध अभिनयको नाच शुरू गरिन्छ । चक्रमण्डप नकछे टोलको बौद्ध चैत्य र कोर्छे टोलमा घमासान युद्धले भरिएको नाँच प्रदर्शन गर्दै युद्धका निमित्त गुर्कोट टोल र टसिचा टोलमा पुगीन्छ । युद्धमा थाकेको अनुभव भएपछि आफ्नो दलबलसहित सेनापति पिंगल टोलको बालकुमारीसमक्ष सहायता माग्न जान्छन् र बालकुमारीबाट सहायता पाएपछि युद्धकारीहरू भीमसेन डोबर डबलीमा पुग्छन् र पुनः युद्ध दोहोर्‍याउँछन् । त्यहाँ चार जना दानव सेनाहरू फेला पर्छन र ती चार सेनाको प्रतीकस्वरूप चारवटा राँगोलाई सबै मिलेर खड्ग प्रहारद्वारा मारिन्छ । यो चलन अद्यावधि छँदैछ । विजय प्राप्त गर्दै अघि बढिरहेका सेनाहरू काली मन्दिर हुँदै त्रिपुरासुन्दरी पुगी सहायता माग्छन् । त्रिपुरासुन्दरी भगवतीले आफ्ना नाबालक छोरा बटुक भैरवलाई युद्ध गर्ने तरिका सिकाएपछि घण्ट, डमरू, खड्ग चारहातमा थमाई दिएर राँगोको आन्द्राको माला लगाइदिन्छन् भन्ने पनि किम्बदन्ति छ । त्यसपश्चात् बटुक भैरव सहितका सेना दुंगल टोल, नागेश्वर मन्दिर, पिंगल टोलको महादेवस्थान, राजकुलेश्वरस्थान हुँदै अग्लो मण्डपमा चढ्दै चक्रराज बलीराजाको मूर्ति स्थापना गरेको ठाउँमा पुग्छन् । भीमसेनस्थान र त्रिपुरासुन्दरीमा बली दिइएको राँगाको टाउको यहाँ राखिन्छ र उक्त टाउकोलाई राजकुलेश्वर भगवतीले र त्यसपछि बटुक भैरवले खड्ग प्रहार गर्छन् । पछि अरू सेनाले खड्ग प्रहार गरी शिरछेदन गर्छन् । शिरछेदनपछि सगुनबाजा बजाउँदै खुशीलायी मनाउने प्रचलनअनुरूप दिनभरी खड्ग जात्रा मनाउनुका साथै बेलुकीपख त्रिपुरासुन्दरी र राजकुलेश्वरका पुजारीले मन्दिरअगाडि बसी टीका लगाइदिने प्रचलन अझै छ ।

Hipa Thami Festival: Dolakha (Repost from 2009)

The 10th day of dashain, the festivities reach the heights on Vijaya Dashami otherwise known as Tika. It is said that Rama gained victory killing Ravana and Durga slaying Mahisasura. Hence, Vijaya Dashami is the day of victory. This is the day of family reunion and get togethers with relations. Juniors are especially visited to receive tika, a paste of vermilion, rice and curd and Jamara from them. Tika is the symbol of triumph and power of female deities. Therefore, the elders, while putting tika on the forehead of their juniors, read out the blessings in Sanskrit. Dressed in their best attires, people move from one place to another to convey their respects, receive tika and blessings, exchange greetings and partake of sumptuous food and drink. Some communities receive tika on the tenth day only while others enjoy rest of the five days too. Those who put on tika to juniors are offered some gifts and those who receive tika are offered fruits and snacks afterwards. Swings of various types are one of the major attractions of the festival. Even the old people swing in the belief that one should relieve the mother earth of one"s burden at least once a year on Vijaya Dashami. Children and teenagers enjoy swings most. Swings in most cases are special to Bada Dashain and Tihar principally in the countryside. On this day, two thami men must make the trek from the village Dumkot to Dolakha bazaar, where they strip down to loincloths and drink the fresh blood of a buffalo calf sacrificed in the Devikot temple courtyard. By drinking the blood, the thami are believed to clear the way for Newar fighters to win the battles against evil in the Khadga Jatra Festival, which takes place on the following day. This festival is called as Hipa thami festival.

Chhetchhet Waterfall

Chhetchhet waterfall is located at Chhetchhet village of Lamabagar VDC of Dolakha District. It takes two days walk from the Charikot bazar and one day walk from Singati bazar to reach there. The stream water is falling from the more than 100m height into the left bank of the Tamakoshi River. The fall has very nice scenery. The falling water is hit on the hard rock at the foot of the fall. The falling warer splaches in a large area. These all photographs were taken in August 2010.

Scatter water of the fall also reaches in the right bank of the Tamakoshi River.

Suwa Taisha, Japan

Suwa Taisha is formed of two major locations, Kamisha and Shimosha, located to the north and south of Lake Suwa, Nagano, Japan respectively. Both locations are formed of two shrines. Kamisha is formed of Honmiya and Maemiya, and Shimosha is formed of Harumiya and Akimiya. Its parish area is as broad as to cover the whole Suwa.
This shrine has been worshipped by the Imperial Court since the ancient time. In 691, a messenger was sent by the emperor in order to pray for peace of nation and good harvest. The succesive emperors worshipped this shrine. Tha Kami (deity) of Suwa is also worshipped as a deity of bravery and as a gurdian of warriors. When the Emperor Jingu sent troops to Korean peninsula, the deity was believed to be assisting the troops, and in Heian period the deity was well known as the primary divinity of war. From Kamakura period, many famous war lords including Shoguns of Tokugawa family prayed for fortune and peace of the nation by dedicating shrine lands and treasures.
The deity is also widely known as a deity of rain and wind and as a guardian of water. Also, people worship the Kami for good harvest. Furthermore, people believe that the deity is the source of life and the guardian of living. Thus, the divine virtue is full of variety such as home safety, healthy living, traffic safety, prosperity of industry and good luck.

सुनखानीको मनोरम द्रीश्य

दोलखा जिल्लाको सुनखानी गाविस अबस्थित सुन दिने खोबिल्टो जिल्ला मै प्रसिद्ध छ । जिल्ला सदरमुकाम चरिकोट बाट करिब ३ घण्टाको बस यात्रा पछी यस् ठाउँमा पुग्न सकिन्छ । परम्परागत किम्बदन्ती अनुसार यस् खोबिल्टोले सुन दिने गर्दथ्यो रे अर्थात यस् खोबिल्टोबाट सुन उत्पती हुन्थ्यो रे । र त्यसैले यस् ठाउँको नाम सुनखानी भनी नामाकरन गरिएको भनाइ छ । परम्परागत किम्बदन्ती अनुसार यस् खोबिल्टो महत्वपूर्ण देखिएको हुँदा यस्को ईतिहास खोतल्नु अती आबश्यक देखिन्छ ।

यस बर्ष पनि एतिहासिक नगर दोलखा बजारमा परम्परा देखी चलिआएको रातो मच्छिन्द्रनाथ रथ जात्रा सम्पन्न भएको छ । चैत्र पुर्णिमा (१७ गते ) बाट आरम्भ भइ दोलखा नगर को सबै टोल परिक्रमा गरी ९ दिन मा सम्पन्न हुने गर्दछ । अहिलेसम्म भेटिएको ऐतिहासिक प्रमाण अनुरुप वि. स. १६३८ (ने. स. ७०१) चैत्र कृष्ण पक्ष परेवाका दिनमा ओमवहालका भिक्षुहरुले चढाएको सुर्वण प्रभा र छत्र देखिन आए पनि स्थानिय अग्रजहरु दोलखाको मच्छिन्द्रनाथ रथ जात्रा वि. स. १५०० अघी चलिआएको दाबी गर्दछन । मच्छिन्द्रनाथ रथ जात्रा चलाउन आय स्रोत भएका गुठीका जग्गाहरुबाट जग्गा कमाउनेहरुले आम्दानी नल्याइ दिये पछी यस् जात्रा २०४८ साल तिर रोकेका थिए । पछी यस् जात्रा रथमा बोकी मनाउदै आए पनि २०५५ साल देखी कालिन्चोक युवा क्लब र स्थानिय समाजसेवी हरु को पहलमा हाल सम्म सन्चालन भइरहेको छ । आज सम्म यस् जात्रा चलाउन सरकारी निकायको ध्यान गएको देखिदैन ।

दोलखा जिल्लाको प्रसिद्धसाथै मन्दिरै मन्दिरले भरिएको शहर दोलखामा कुनै जमानामा निक्कै चहलपहल हुन्थ्यो रे भनी यहाँका बुढापाकाहरुले अझै भन्छन । दोलखा बजारलाई अभयपुर शहरको नामले पनि चिनिने गर्थ्यो । जिल्लाकै ब्यापारिक केन्द्रको रुपमा स्थापित थिए । जिल्लाको बिभिन्न ठाउँबाट ब्यापार गर्न मान्छेहरु आउथेरे । यस शहरमा मानिसहरुको भिड साथ साथै ठुला ठुला पसलहरु पनि थिए रे । मेरी आमाले भन्नु हुन्थ्यो यहाँ पसलहरु र मानिसहरुको लाम लस्कर नै थिए । कुनैबेला यहाँ निक्कै चहलपहल नै हुनेगर्थे ब्यापारिक केन्द्रको रुपमा मात्र नभइ आफ्नै कला, भाषा , संस्कृति र धार्मिक स्थलहरुले गर्दा पनि । बिभिन्न मन्दिर र पुराना घरहरुका झ्याल-ढोकाहरुमा कुदिएका चित्रहरु, भिमेश्वर मन्दिर वरिपरी रहेका ढुङ्गामा कुदिएर भनाएका मुर्ती र स्तम्भहरु अझै छन। प्राय जसो मुर्तीहरु हराइसके पनि मन्दिरहरु अझै धेरै नै छ । कुनै जमानामा यती धेरै प्रख्यात र चहल पहल भएको शहर दोलखाको आफ्नै कथा र व्यथा छ ।

उहिलेजमनामा यो शहरलाई जिल्लाको सदरमुकाम पनि बनाउन खोजेका थिए रे उहिलेको सरकारले । तर यहाँको बुढापाकाहरुले हाम्रो यस् ठाउँमा सदरमुकाम राख्यो भनेत हाम्रा चेलीबेटीहरु बिगारछन सरकारी कर्मचारीहरुले भनी यस् शहर नजिकै अली पर स्याल कराउने ठाउँमा सदरमुकाम राख्न लगायोरे । जुन चाँही अहिले चरिकोट बजारले प्रसिद्ध र बिकसित पनि भइसकेको छ यो शहर भन्दा पनि । यहाँका बासिन्दाहरुले चाडबाड पनि धेरै मनाउछन र जात्रा पनि धेरै नै लाग्ने गर्छन् । एक बर्षमा ४०० भन्दा बदी पर्बहरु मनाइन्छ । ति मध्य प्रसिद्ध पर्बहरुमा मच्चिन्द्रनाथको रथ तान्ने जात्रा, गाईजात्रा, लाखेजात्रा, भैरब कुमारीको जात्रा, दसैंमालाग्ने हिपा थामी र खडग जात्राहरु पर्दछन । यहाँको जात्राहेर्न जिल्लाको बिभिन्न ठाउँहरु बाट मात्र नभै छिमेकी जिल्लाहरु बाट पनि मानिसहरु आउने गर्थे । मैले देखुन्जेल पनि केही बर्ष पहिले सम्म मान्छेको भिडले भुइमाखुट्टा राख्ने ठाउँ सम्म पनि हुँदैन थियो जात्राको बेलामा त । भाषाको हिसाबले पनि दोलखा महत्त्वपूर्ण छ। दोलखा भाषा मौलिक नेवार भाषा हुनुको साथै अरु नेवारी भाषा भन्दा पनि शुद्ध भएको बुढापाकाहरुले भन्ने गर्दछन ।

तर आज स्थिती ठीक उल्टो भएको छ, नत यहाँ आजकाल ब्यापारिक हिसाबले कुनै चहल पहल हुन्छ नत पर्बहरुको बेलामा पहिलेको जस्तो मान्छे हरु नै देख्न पाईन्छ । यहाँका स्थानिय युवाहरु पनि माध्यमिक तहको पढाई सकिना साथ रोजगारको लागि अथवा उच्छ शिक्षा अध्ययनको लागि काठमाडौं शहर र अन्यत्र ठाउँहरुमा बिस्थापित भइ पलाएन भई दिदा भने यहाँ बुढापाका , महिला र बच्चाहरु बाहेक अरुलाई भेट्न वा देख्न चाँही मुस्किल नै पर्छ । र दोलखा-सिङटीको बाटो खुले देखी यहाँ भएका सानातिना ब्यापारहरु पनि खस्किदै गयो । र २०५४ साल पछी भिमेश्वर नगरपालिकाको वडा न २, ३, र ४ मा मात्र सिमित हुन पुगेका दोलखा बजारमा रहेको घरेलु तथा साना उद्योग कार्यालय पनि द्वन्दको मारमा परी ध्वस्त भए पछी चरिकोटमा सारे देखी भने यस् ठाउमा त्यती चहलपहल पनि हुन छाडे। आजकाल त यहाँ लागेका जात्राहरु हेर्न आउने मान्छेहरु पनि हराउन थाले । हुँदा हुँदा त यहाँको जात्राहरु चलाऊन आम्दानी भएका गुठीका जग्गाहरुबाट भएको आम्दानी पनि कमाउनेले नै भोग गरिदिये पछी चाँही जात्रा चलाऊन पनि चन्दा उठाउनु परिरहेको छ । यहाँ बिभिन्न संघ संस्थाहरु पनि नभएका होइनन यहाँको कला, भाषा , संस्कृति र धार्मिक स्थलहरुको सरक्षणको लागि । ति मध्य केही निस्कृय भइसकेका छन भने केही कालिन्च्वोक युबा क्लब, तिलिन्चो परिवार, दोलखा समाज, द्वाखा गुठी आदी चाँही अझै नै सकृय रुपमा लागेका छन । यती हुँदा हुँदै पनि दोलखा मन्दिर नै मन्दिर ले भरिएको शहर भएकोले गर्दा देशका बिभिन्न स्थानबाट भिमेश्वर मन्दिर र अन्य मन्दिरहरु मा दर्शन गर्न आउने दर्शनार्थीहरुले गर्दा अझै चहलपहल हुने नै गर्दछ । अझ शनिबार र मंगलबारमा चाँही झन बिशेष चहल पहल नै हुने गर्दछ ।

This tower was originally built in 1878 as a drill hall for the Sapporo Agricultural College, which later became Hokkaido University. We can reach there by 5-10 minute walk south of Sapporo Station, and one block north of Odori Park. The American-made clock was added three years later. At the time of its construction, the Clock Tower was the tallest building in Sapporo, and although it has become rather inconspicuous thanks to the modern buildings towering around it, it is still considered a symbol of the city and is often featured in postcards and brochures. It has been designated as an Important Cultural Property, and there is a small local history museum inside, which is open to the public. The red stars on the front of the building were a symbol of the Hokkaido Development Commission.

Yesterday (March-2) I arrived in Hokkaido for participating 54th Annual Conference on Hydraulic Engineering, which is held at Hokkaido University from March 4-5, 2010. Hokkaido is very nice city. Hokkaido's weather is harsh in winter with lots of snowfall, below zero temperatures and frozen seas. Today also a lot of snow fall occurs in Sapporo, Hokkaido.

Jinja Shrine is located at Fushimi district within 8min walk from Fushimi Momoyama Keihan ralway line and it was named by Emperor Seiwa in 862. This shrine honors several Emperors. Its name, 'Gokou no miya' (the shrine of aromatic water), came from its spring which is one of the 100 purest natural water sources in Japan. Today, the water is said to be of benefit in alleviating illness. The Front Gate and Main Hall of this shrine are designated as Important Cultural Assets.

Sunkhani Village is located at the northern part of Dolakha district and 9.6km distance from district headquarter. It takes 2.5-3hrs by bus from district headquarter Charikot and 3-4hrs by foot walk. There are many places for tourism such as Kalinag Temple, Chaughara Building and others. Nara Visit

On 1st January during new year holiday, I have been to Nara with my family and friends. We enjoyed visiting most famous and historical temples and tourist destinations even there was a very cold. There are many UNESCO world heritage sites in Nara. One of the most popular temple in Nara is Kofukuji, which photos are shown above. It was founded in 669 by a member of the Fujiwara clan to pray for the clan leader to recover from illness. There are also the Three-storeyed Pagoda, Golden Halls, and Octagonal Halls, each of which enshrine various Buddhas and holy figures.

Nara park is also the most attractive sightseeing area in Nara. It was established in 1980 and many temples Todaiji, Tofukuji and Kasuga Taisha are located in this park. We can see many hundreds of freely roaming deer in the park.

Another most popular temple of Nara is Kasuga-Taisha (photo above), which is one of the oldest and largest shrines in Japan. It was built in 768 by the Fujiwaras. On the day of new year, thousands of people came this temple to pray the god.

Todaiji is one of Japan's most famous historical temple (photo above). It was constructed in 752 as the head temple of all provincial Buddhist temples of Japan. In Todaiji temple, there is Japan's largest bronze Buddha statue 'Daibutsu' and it is also the world's largest wooden building. A popular attraction of Todaiji is a pillar inside the temple which has a hole in its base the same size as the Daibutsu's nostril. It is said that those who can squeeze through this opening will be granted enlightenment in their next reincarnation.

Ukimi-do

Ukimi-do is also the popular site in Nara, which is located inside Nara park. Ukimi-do hexagonal gazebo-on-the-water is built over Sagi (heron) Pond in Nara Park. When we were in Ukimi-do, it was almost darkness in the sky and returned back to our destination.

About 400-500 years before constructed ‘Chaughara Building’ of Dolakha is famous in cultural heritage throughout the country. This building is located at Sunkhani VDC of Dolakha district. We can reach this building within 2.5-3hrs by bus from district headquarter Charikot and it takes 3-4hrs by foot. This building was constructed by Shiwakoti families. From ancient time Shiwakoti families were living in this building but recently this building is in under conservation of the Department of Archeology, Nepal.

मूर्तिचोरीको सञ्जाल

दोलखा ।

प्रायः दैनिक तथा साप्ताहिक पत्र पत्रिकाहरूमा फलाना फलाना ठाउँको यस्तो मूर्ति चोरी भयो भन्ने खबर बारम्बार आइरहेको छ । हुँदा हुँदा सुरक्षा दलले घेरिराखेको पशुपति राजराजेश्वरी घाटको राजेश्वरी देवीको मन्दिरको ढोकामाथि राखिएको तोरणको मध्यभागको देवीको मूर्तिसमेत चोरी भइसकेको छ । काठमाडौं ललितपुर, भक्तपुर र अन्यत्रको मूर्तिहरू चोरी भएको खबर पनि पत्र-पत्रकिामा बराबर आइरहेको छ तर चोरी भएका मूर्ति फेला परेको भन्ने विरलै पाइन्छ । गतवर्ष एक दैनिकमा प्रकाशित भए अनुसार डोल्पाको सालङाङ स्थित माङछर जाम्चुलिक गुम्बाको बुद्धका २८ वटा मूर्ति करिब दुई वर्ष अघि तिब्बतीहरूले चोरी गरेको र चीन सरकारमा उजुर गरेपछि अनुसन्धान गरी चोरिएका मूर्ति फेला पारी नेपाल सरकार मार्फत सम्बन्धित गुम्बालाई जिम्मा दिएको तथा चोरहरू तीनजनालाई मृत्युदण्ड एवं अन्यलाई कैद सजाय दिएको पाइएको छ ।

काठमाडौं उपत्यकापछि मन्दिरै मन्दिरको बस्ती भएको सहर हो दोलखा । दोलखामा सार्वजनिक मन्दिरको साथै निजी कुलायन मन्दिर नभएको परिवार छैनन् । प्रत्येक वंश परिवारमा सुन चाँदीका मूर्तिहरू गहनाहरू भएकोले नै दोलखा वासीहरूलाई दुई लाखे भनिन थालियो र दुई लाखे भन्दा भन्दै अपभ्रंस भई दोलखा हुन गएको र पछि गएर जिल्लाको नाम नै दोलखा भएको भन्ने आख्यान छ । दोलखाका सार्वजनिक मन्दिर तथा व्यक्तिगत निजी मन्दिर कुलस्थानको मूर्तिहरू २०३७ सालदेखि बढी मात्रामा चोरी हुन थालेको हो । तर अब ताल्चाले पनि काम गर्न छोडेको छ । दोलखा सहरका सार्वजनिक मन्दिरका चोरी भएको मूर्तिहरू मध्ये २०२९ सालमा आर्या अवलोकितेश्वर करूणामय मच्छिन्द्रनाथको मूर्तिलाई त्यसकोे केही दिनपछि दोलखा बजारको एउटा करेसाबारीमा फालिएको अवस्थामा भेट्टाइएको थियो । त्यस मन्दिरबाट रथयात्राको बेला २०६४ साल वैशाख १५ गते चाँदीको मोहरमाला तथा चाँदीको फूलमाला चोरी भएको पाइएको छ । पछि मोहरमालाको २-३ वटा मोहर बाहेक अन्य खण्डित अवस्थामा फेला पर्‍यो ।

२०३२ सालमा दोलखाका तत्कालीन राजाहरूको कुलस्थान मन्दिर मानिएको राजकुलेश्वर तलेजु भवानीको मन्दिरमा राखिएको करिब ६ फिट अग्लो चार हात भएको सुनको जलप भएको खदिलो भगवतीको मूर्ति चोरी भएको थियो । त्यसपछि त्यसको सट्टामा तामाको भगवतीको मूर्ति राखियो सो पनि २०४२ सालमा चोरी भएको थियो । त्यसपछि पनि ढलौटको सानो भगवतीको मूर्ति राखिएको थियो । सो पनि २०६४ सालको कोजाग्रत पूणिर्माको दिन चोरी भयो ।

त्यसैगरी २०४२ साल असोज २२ गते त्रिपुरा सुन्दरी मन्दिरको मूल कोठाको ठीक तलको कोठामा रहेको बटुक भैरवको आमा मानिएको देवीको खदिलो ढलौटको मूर्ति चोरी भयो । सो मूर्ति करिब दुई फुट अग्लो र ३०-३५ धार्नीको रहेको अनुमान छ । सो मूर्ति चोरी भएपछि २०६२ असोजमा मन्दिर जीर्णोद्धारको क्रममा ढुङ्गा करिब २०० किलोग्रामका देवीको मूर्ति पुनः स्थापना गरिएको छ । यसैस्थानमा २००२ साल स्थापना गरिएको कालीमाताको ढलोटको मूर्ति पनि फेरि चोरी भएको छ ।

२०५९ साल आषाढ २६ गते भीमेश्वर मन्दिरको मूल ढोकामाथि राखिएको तोरणको मध्ये भागमा रहेको भीमसेनको मूर्ति पनि चोरी भएको छ । सुरक्षाको लागि भीमसेन मन्दिरको चारैतिर फलामे छडका् अग्लो वार लगाइए पनि चोरी भएको छ । सुरक्षाको लागि भीमसेन मन्दिरको चारैतिर फलामे छडको अग्लो वार लगाइए पनि चोरले उत्तरपट्टकिो समीको रूखबाट तल झरी लगेको भन्ने भनाइ छ । त्यस्तै यहींका हरिसिद्धिको मूर्ति कहिले चोरी भयो कसैलाई थाहा भएन । राइती -राजहिटी) तीनधाराको ढुङ्गाको शिवलिङ्ग र २०६३ सालमा ढुङ्गाको नारायण मूर्ति पनि चोरी भएको छ ।

भीमेश्वर न.पा २ डोकछे टोल निवासी श्रेष्ठ परिवारहरूको कुलस्थानको झुमा देवी -मावलीबाट दाइजो प्राप्त देवी) मूलदेवी, र भैरव -हाँथो) मूर्ति २०३०।३१ सालतिरै चोरी भइसकेको छ । त्यस्तै भीमेश्वर नजिकै नकछें प्रधान परिवारको कुलस्थान ने.स. ६९५ वि.सं. १६३० मा दोलखाका राजा वासुदेवले काशीबाट ल्याई अलग मन्दिर बनाई स्थापना गरेको विभिन्न देवी देवताका मूर्तिहरूमध्ये २०३७ आषाढ १६ गते भगवतीको मूर्ति राजाको मूर्ति, नारायणका ढलौट मूर्तिहरू, मझौला भैरव मूर्तिहरू चोरी भएको थियो । २०४८ कार्तिकमा भगवतीदेवी मूर्ति ढुङ्गाको सूर्य मूर्ति, कालो शालीग्राम दुई वटा सेतो स्फटिकको शिवलिङ्ग पनि तथा हस्त लिखितदेवी ग्रन्थ समेत चोरी भएको तथ्याङ्क छ । त्यसैगरी २०५० फागुन २२ गते तामामा सुनको मोलम्बा गरिएको करिब दुई फुट उचाइ १.५ फुट चौडाई भएको भैरवको २ थान मूर्ति पनि चोरी भएको यसैगरी २०६४ कार्तिकमा तीन तहको आशनमा जडान गरिएको साना करिब ३० वटा मूर्तिहरू चोरी भएको छ ।

भीमेश्वर न.पा.२ डोकलूंगा जोशी परिवारका कुलस्थानका मूर्तिहरू पनि २०४८/०४९ सालतिर चोरी भएको थियो । पाप गर्दा भीमेश्वर न.पा.३ परान्छे टोलका श्रेष्ठ परिवारहरूको कुलस्थानका मूर्तिहरू पनि २०६०/०६१ सालतिर चोरी भएको थियो । त्यस्तै शिम्मु -स्वयम्वु) टोल निवासी -बज्राचार्य) तुलाधरहरूको कुलस्थानका बुद्धका तथा अन्य देवीदेवता मूतिहरु २०६३ कात्तिक २२ गते, ट्वाल्चा टोलका श्रेष्ठ परिवारको कुलस्थानको मूर्तिहरू २०६५ असार १० गते र वगस्छे टोलका श्रेष्ठ परिवारहरूको कुलस्थानको मूर्तिहरू २०६५ कात्तिक ७ गते चोरी भएको थियो । त्यस्तै कोछेटोल निवासी श्रेष्ठ परिवारका कोठामा राखिएको करिब २.५ फुट अग्लो ताराको मूर्ति २०६५ माघमा चोरी भयो । २०६४ को वडा दसैंको अष्टमीको दिन भी.न.पा.स्थित गणेशमा चढाइएको तामाको मुकुट २०६५ फागुनमा चोरी भयो । सोही गणेश मन्दिरमा धेरै पहिले जडान गरिएको फुलमाला आकारको तोरणको माथिल्लो भागमा जडान गरिएको करिब तीन इन्च अग्लो ढलौटको गणेश मूर्ति २०६६ वैशाख ८ गते चोरी भयो ।

चोरी भएकामध्ये हालसम्म मच्छिन्द्रनाथको मूर्तिबाहेक अन्य कुनै पनि मूर्तिहरू फेलापरेका छैन । फेलापरेका मूर्ति पनि कसैले खोज तलास गरेर फेला परेको होइन वा बाह्रविसे पुगेर आफैँ फर्केर आएको अर्थात् दोलखा बजारमा ल्याई फालिएको अवस्थामा फेला परेको भन्ने भनाइ छ ।

कसका घरका कुन मन्दिरमा कस्ता कस्ता मूर्तिहरू छन् भन्ने सम्बन्धित व्यक्ति र स्थानीय व्यक्तिहरूलाई थाहा हुन्छ । मूर्ति चोर्न सम्बन्धित व्यक्ति तथा स्थानीय व्यक्तिहरुलाई हात नलिई बाहिरकाले सोझै चोर्न सक्तैन । चोरी भएका मूर्ति सम्बन्धमा सम्बन्धित निकायमा जाहेरी दिएमा र सम्बन्धित निकायले पनि दतारुकताका साथ खोजी गरेमा पत्ता नलाग्ने कुरो पनि थिएन । सम्बन्धित व्यक्तिले समयमा जाहेरी पनि नदिने र सम्बन्धित निकायले पनि त्यति चासो नदेखाउनाले नै मूर्ति चोरीको घटना बढिरहेको छ । साना साना मूुर्तिहरू त झोलामा हालेर पनि लगे होलान्, खल्तीमा हालेर पनि लगे होलान् । तर ठूला-ठूला मूर्तिहरू जस्ता त्रिपुरासुन्दरी मन्दिरको ढलौटको ठूलो मूर्ति, कोर्छे टोलका तारा मूति, नकछे प्रधान परिवारका भैरव मूर्तिहरू कसरी लगे होलान् सम्झादा पनि आपत्ती लाग्छ ।

त्यसैले यस्तो मूर्ति चोरीका घटनालाई कम गर्न स्थानीय निकाय, नागरिक समाज र स्थानीय व्यक्ति नै सतर्क हुनुपर्ने देखिन्छ ।

Glimpse of Kamenose Landslide Visit

Yamato River collects rainfall from all over the Nara Basin of Japan. After passing through the Nara Basin, Yamato River runs into the Osaka Plain through the Kamenose Valley. The area around the Kamenose Valley has been prone to landslides since ancient days. There was a concern that landslides in the area might cause the Nara Basin to submerge and result in extensive damages caused by the outrush of dammed water in and around the Osaka Plain. The landslide prevention works in Kamenose are of the largest scale in Japan and use a variety of techniques including: caisson pileworks reaching as deep as 100m; piling works using alarge number of steel pipes to restrain the landslidepressure; soil removal works; channel works; drainagewell works; and drainage tunnel works. Here is some photographs of Kamenose landslide prevention works, which was taken in last week on October 22 during my field trip.

Sakurajima Volcanic Mountain, Kagoshima

Sakurajima is an active composite volcano and a former island of the same name in Kagoshima Prefecture of Japan. The lava flows of the 1914 eruption caused the former island to be connected with the Osumi Peninsula. The volcanic activity still continues, dropping large amounts of volcanic ash on the surroundings. Earlier eruptions built the white sands highlands in the region. Sakurajima is a composite mountain. Its summit is split into three peaks, Kitadake (northern peak), Nakadake (central peak) and Minamidake (southern peak) which is active now.
Sakurajima was formed in an enormous eruption 22,000 years ago. Several hundred cubic kilometres of ash and pumice were ejected, causing the magma chamber underneath the erupting vents to collapse. The resulting caldera is over 20 kilometres across. Tephra fell as far as 1,000 kilometres from the volcano. Sakurajima is a modern active vent of the same Aira caldera volcano.
Sakurajima was formed by later activity within the caldera, beginning about 13,000 years ago. It lies about 8 kilometres south of the centre of the caldera. Its first eruption in recorded history occurred in 963 AD. Most of its eruptions are strombolian, affecting only the summit areas, but larger plinian eruptions have occurred in 1471–1476, 1779–1782 and 1914. Volcanic activity at Kitadake ended around 4,900 years ago: subsequent eruptions have been centered on Minamidake.
Sakurajima's activity became more prominent in 1955, and the volcano has been erupting almost constantly ever since. Thousands of small explosions occur each year, throwing ash to heights of up to a few kilometers above the mountain. The Sakurajima Volcano Observatory was set up in 1960 to monitor these eruptions.
Monitoring of the volcano and predictions of large eruptions are particularly important because of its location in a densely populated area, with the city of Kagoshima's 680,000 residents just a few kilometers from the volcano. The city conducts regular evacuation drills, and a number of shelters have been built where people can take refuge from falling volcanic debris. In light of the dangers it presents to nearby populations, Sakurajima was designated a Decade Volcano in 1991, identifying it as worthy of particular study as part of the United Nations' International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction. On March 10, 2009, Sakurajima erupted, sending debris up to 2 km away. An eruption had been expected following a series of smaller explosions over the weekend. It is not thought there was any damage caused by the latest eruption. It was erupted continuously also in last end of August when I was there during my lab trip.

Summer at Kagoshima

Kagoshima is the capital city of Kagoshima Prefecture at the southwestern tip of the Kyushu island of Japan, and the largest city in the prefecture by some margin. It has been nicknamed the "Naples of the Eastern world" for its bay location (Aira Caldera), hot climate and impressive stratovolcano, Sakurajima. In last week, I had field trip to Kagoshima with ma Lab members, where we enjoyed a lot during our trip.

खोजी पुरानो नेवार बस्तीको

संस्कृतिकर्मी शान्तकृष्ण श्रेष्ठ हिजोआज पुरातत्व विभाग धाइरहेका छन्, नेवारहरूको इतिहास खोतल्न। नेवारहरूको सबभन्दा पुरानो बस्ती दोलखा भएको र उनीहरू त्यहीँबाट काठमाडौं प्रवेश गरेको दाबी गर्दै उनी विगतमा लेखिएको इतिहास सच्याउने अभियानमा जुटेका हुन्। इतिहासविद्हरूले भने नेवार समुदाय काठमाडौं उपत्यकाबाट बाहिरी जिल्लामा फिँजिएको बताउँदै आएका छन्।
श्रेष्ठ अध्यक्ष रहेको भिमेश्वर सामुदायिक विकास संस्थाले दोलखाको गहन अनुसन्धान माग गर्दै संस्कृति मन्त्रालय र पुरातत्व विभागमा छुट्टाछुट्टै निवेदन दिएको छ। यसै आधारमा मन्त्रालयले दोलखाको ऐतिहासिक, धार्मिक, सांस्कृतिक एवं पर्यटन क्षेत्र विकास गर्ने कार्ययोजना पारित गरिसकेको छ। विभागले पनि विकास कार्यक्रम स्वीकृतिका लागि राष्ट्रिय योजना आयोग पठाएको छ।
विभागका अनुसन्धान अधिकृत मोहनसिंह लामाका अनुसार आयोगबाट कार्यक्रम स्वीकृत हुनासाथ मध्यस्थकर्ता नियुक्त गरेर दोलखाको गहिरो प्रामाणिक अनुसन्धान सुरु गरिनेछ। 'त्यो अनुसन्धानबाट प्राप्त प्रतिवेदनका आधारमा थप अनुसन्धान गर्छौं,' उनले भने।दोलखा बजार (भिमेश्वर नगरपालिकाको वडा नं २, ३ र ४) को अध्ययन अपुरो भएको बताउँदै श्रेष्ठले २०५७ सालदेखि गहन अनुसन्धानको माग गर्दै आएका हुन्।
इतिहासशिरोमणि बाबुराम आचार्यले दोलखाको इतिहास पूर्ण नभएसम्म नेपालको इतिहास पूरा हुँदैन भनेका छन्। विगतमा अध्ययन गर्ने इतिहासकारहरू मोहन खनाल, धनबज्र बज्राचार्य र टेकबहादुर श्रेष्ठले पनि दोलखाको थप अध्ययन आवश्यक भएको बताएका थिए।काठमाडौंभन्दा दोलखा पुरानो नेवार बस्ती हो भन्ने केही आधार छन्, श्रेष्ठसँग। नेपालमा पहिलो सिक्का निष्कासन दोलखाका राजा जयइन्द्रसिंह देवले गरेका हुन्। विक्रम संवत १५९१ देखि १६०५ सम्म दोलखाको राजगद्दी सम्हालेका जयइन्द्रसिंहले कान्तिपुरका राजा महिन्द्र मल्लले भन्दा झण्डै १५ वर्षअघि चाँदीको मोहर चलाएको प्रमाणित भइसकेको छ। खनाल, बज्राचार्य र श्रेष्ठको अध्ययनले पनि यही देखाउँछ। तर, महिन्द्र मल्लले पहिलोपटक सिक्का निष्कासन गरेको भ्रम फिँजाइएको छ। सामान्य ज्ञानहरूमा पनि यही लेखिएको छ।
सन् १९८९ मा लन्डनबाट प्रकाशित 'क्वाइन्स अफ नेपाल' पुस्तकमा दोलखा राज्यको सिक्कालाई हिन्दुहरूको पहिलो सिक्का मानिएको छ। चाँदीको मोहरमा एकापट्टी जयइन्द्रसिंह देव र अर्कापट्टी उनकी महारानी विजयालक्ष्मीको नाम लेखिएको छ। काठमाडौंको राष्ट्रिय संग्रहालयमा एउटामात्रै मोहर सुरक्षित छ। श्रेष्ठ भन्छन्, 'काठमाडौं उपत्यकाका राज्यहरूभन्दा दोलखा विकसित र पुरानो भएकाले त्यहाँ पहिले सिक्का निष्कासन भयो।' इतिहासअनुसार विसं १६०५ मा राजा जयइन्द्रसिंहको निधन भयो। त्यसपछि १६५५ मा कान्तिपुरका राजा शिविसिंहले दोलखाका राजा भीष्मदेवलाई परास्त गरे। त्यो बेलादेखि दोलखा कान्तिपुरको अधिनमा आयो।
राजा महिन्द्र मल्लले सिक्का निष्कासन गरेपछि दोलखाको इतिहास मेटाएको आरोप लगाउँछन्, श्रेष्ठ। हिमाली अधिराज्यका मुद्रा विशेषज्ञ मानिएका बेलायती नागरिक निकोलस रोड्सले एक ठाउँमा महिन्द्र मल्लले जयइन्द्रसिंहले निकालेका मोहर गालेको लेखेका छन्। दोलखा भाषाको लिपि पनि यसैगरी मेटाइएको श्रेष्ठको आशंका छ।

इष्ट देवता

भिमसेन नेवार समुदायका इष्टदेवता हुन्। दोलखा बजारमा भिमेश्वर मन्दिर छ। श्रेष्ठका अनुसार त्यतिखेर काठमाडौंबासीले दोलखाको नक्कल गरेर भिमसेन मूर्ति यहाँ स्थापना गरेका हुन्। उनको प्रश्न छ, 'काठमाडौंभन्दा पुरानो बस्ती नभएको भए कसरी दोलखाबाट भिमसेन यता ल्याइन्थ्यो ?'
इष्टदेवताका विषयमा संस्कृतिविद् सत्यमोहन जोशीको विचार पनि केही हदसम्म मेल खान्छ। काठमाडौंका मुख्यमुख्य मन्दिरमा रहेका भिमसेन दोलखाबाटै ल्याइएको उनी स्वीकार गर्छन्।
यसमा श्रेष्ठको तर्क भने यस्तो छ, 'भिमसेनको मूर्ति सारिएको होइन, उस्तै बनाइएको हो। सारिएको भए त अहिले दोलखामा भिमेश्वरमा मन्दिर अस्तित्वमा रहने नै थिएन।'

भाषा

भाषाको हिसाबले पनि दोलखा महत्त्वपूर्ण छ। दोलखा भाषा मौलिक नेवार भाषा भएको उनी दाबी गर्छन्।
संस्कृतिविद् जोशी पनि शुद्धताका हिसाबले काठमाडौंको भन्दा दोलखाको नेवार भाषा शुद्ध भएको स्वीकार गर्छन्। 'दोलखाको भाषा हाम्रै हो, यसको संरक्षण गर्नुपर्छ,' नेपाल भाषा एकेडेमीका कुलपतिसमेत रहेका जोशी भन्छन्, 'तर यसलाई सबैतिर चलाउँछु भन्नु व्यावहारिक हुँदैन। कुन पुरानो हो भन्ने विषयमा अनुसन्धान हुनुपर्छ।'
अध्येताहरूका अनुसार काठमाडौंमा प्रचलित नेवार भाषाका सात रूप छन् भने दोलखा भाषामा ३१ वटा। दोलखा भाषाको स्वरलहर पनि फरक छ। यसको लिपि छैन। परापूर्वकालमा दोलखाबाट नेवारसँगै दोलखा भाषा पनि काठमाडौं प्रवेश गरेको र फरक ठाउँमा भाषा सरलीकृत भएको श्रेष्ठ ठोकुवा गर्छन्।

संस्कृति

दोलखामा ३ सय ६५ दिन ४ सयभन्दा बढी सांस्कृतिक पर्व मनाइने गरेको श्रेष्ठ बताउँछन्। कहिलेकाहीँ त दिनमै दुई-तीनवटा पर्व पर्छ। तीमध्ये अहिले केही लोप भइसकेका छन्।
दोलखामा मच्छिन्द्रनाथको जात्रा निकालिन्छ। त्यहाँको तुलनामा काठमाडौंको भूमि समथर छ। रथ तान्न सजिलो हुन्छ। तर पहाडी बस्ती भएकाले रथ यात्रा गर्न गाह्रो हुँदाहुँदै पनि दोलखामा सदियौंदेखि यो जात्रा चलिरहेको छ। श्रेष्ठ भन्छन्, 'मच्छिद्रनाथको मात्रै होइन, अरू जात्रा पनि दोलखाबाट काठमाडौं लगिएका हुन्। काठमाडौंबाट ल्याएको भए त यस्तो अप्ठ्यारो भूबनोटमा किन जात्रा चलाउँथे होला र ?'
दोलखामा भैरवकुमारी नाच ५ रात देखाइन्छ। यो जात्रा काठमाडौंमा पाइन्न। भैरवकुमारी नाचका नायक नेवार समुदायको शिवभक्ति जातिका हुन्छन्। उनीहरूको बसोबास दोलखामा मात्रै छ। 'यसले पनि काठमाडौंभन्दा दोलखा पुरानो बस्ती भएको पुष्टि गर्छ,' श्रेष्ठ भन्छन्।पश्चिम नेपालका नेवार आफूहरू काठमाडौं उपत्यकाबाट आएको बताउँछन्। ज्यापुहरू आफूलाई काठमाडौंको आदिवासी मान्छन्। उनीहरू भोटबाट नेपाल आएको स्वीकार गर्छन्। तर, सुरुमा उनीहरू कताबाट काठमाडौं प्रवेश गरे ? यो प्रश्नको उत्तर खोज्न दोलखाको गहिरो र प्रामाणिक अध्ययन गरिनुपर्ने देखेका छन्, श्रेष्ठले।
अन्य इतिहासविद्हरूको मत भने उनीसँग बाझिन्छ।
त्रिरत्न मानन्धर दोलखालाई नेवारहरूको पुरानो बस्ती मान्दैनन्। 'दोलखाको नेवार बस्ती सबभन्दा पुरानो हो भन्ने कुनै प्रमाण फेला परेको छैन,' उनले भने। उनका अनुसार काठमाडौंमा इस्वी संवत १० र ११ औं शताब्दीको नेपाल भाषाको लिपि र प्रमाण भेटिएको छ। 'त्यतिबेला दोलखा राज्य अस्तित्वमै आएको देखिँदैन,' उनी भन्छन्, 'तर, पुरानो बस्ती हो कि होइन भन्ने निक्र्योल गर्न दोलखाको समाजशास्त्रीय र भाषिक अनुसन्धान हुनु जरुरी छ।'
श्रेष्ठको आफ्नै तर्क छ। इतिहासअनुसार लिच्छिवीकालअघि किराँतकाल थियो। दोलखा राज्य किराँतकालमै अस्तित्वमा रहेको आधार पाइन्छन्। दोलखामा किराँती छाप भन्ने ठाउँसमेत छ। दोलखा बजारको ठूलो स्वयम्भु स्तुपको पेटीसागै किराँती राज्यको सिमास्तम्भ छ। यहाँ केही वर्ष अघिसम्म पूर्वका किराँतहरू पूजा गर्न आउँथे। त्यस्तै किराँतकालीन धारो 'राइती' पनि छ। श्रेष्ठ तर्क गर्छन्, 'नेवारमात्र होइन, अन्य सभ्यता पनि दोलखाबाट सुरु भएको हुन सक्छ।'
त्यही भएर स्थानीय समुदाय दोलखालाई नेवार धामका रूपमा स्थापित गरी धार्मिक पर्यटनको केन्द्र बनाउन कस्सिएको छ। 'यसका लागि दोलखाली र राज्यले पहल गर्नुपर्छ,' श्रेष्ठ भन्छन्, 'पहिले दोलखाको इतिहास लेखिनुपर्‍यो।'

दोलखा बजार

काठमाडौंदेखि दोलखा बजारसम्म सडक यातायातको दुरी १ सय ३४ किलोमिटर छ। बजारमा करिब ५ हजार मानिस बस्छन्। नेवार, थामी, तामाङ र दमाइ बढी छन्। बजार प्रवेश गर्ने ठाउँमा भर्खरै राजा जयइन्द्रसिंह देवमा समर्पित ढोका निर्माण गरिएको छ।
मन्दिर र बिहारमात्रै होइन, कलात्मक आँखीझ्याल भएका घर र दरबार पनि छन् यहाँ। कतिपय कलात्मक घर र दरबार जिर्ण भइसकेका छन्। बहाल टोलको रानी दरबारको पनि बिजोगै छ। पुरानो दरबार भत्किएको ठाउँमा राजकुलेश्वर निम्न माध्यमिक विद्यालय ठडिएको छ। टक्सार भवन जिर्णोद्धार गरी संग्रहालय बनाउने अभियानमा जुटेको छ, द्वाल्खा गुठी । यसबाहेक कुमारी घर, त्रिपुरा सुन्दरी, तलेजु भवानी, महादेव आदिका मन्दिर र ९ वटा चैत्य छन्। यति सानो बस्तीमा मठ, मन्दिर, पोखरीलगायत एक सय १४ वटा सांस्कृतिक सम्पदा छन्। 'यसले पनि दोलखाको ऐतिहासिकता पुष्टि गर्छ,' श्रेष्ठ भन्छन्।
भिमेश्वर मन्दिरमा धार्मिक पर्यटकको घुइँचो लाग्छ। संस्कृतिकर्मी शान्तकृष्ण श्रेष्ठका अनुसार भिमेश्वरको दर्शनबिना पशुपतिनाथको दर्शन अपुरो मानिन्छ। जनकपुरको रामजानकी मन्दिर र भिमेश्वरलाई एकिकृत गरी गुरुयोजना तर्जुमा गर्नुपर्ने मागका साथ संस्कृतिमन्त्रीलाई पनि भेटिसकेको उनले बताए। सरकारले 'भीमेश्वर जनकपुर बृहत्तर क्षेत्र विकास योजना' लागू गरे हिमाली, पहाडी र तराईबासीबीच सहिष्णुताको नाता अझ गाढा हुने उनको भनाइ छ।

दोलखा भाषाको लिपि छैन। काठमाडौं र दोलखाका नेवारले प्रयोग गर्ने भाषाको फरक बुझ्न केही शब्द हेरौं। पानीलाई दोलखाली 'लोखु' भन्छन् भने काठमाडौंकाले 'ल'। किताबलाई दोलखालीले 'साँफर' भन्छन् भने काठमाडौंमा 'सफु' भनिन्छ। दोलखाली अर्धांगिनीलाई 'कलात' भन्छन् भने काठमाडौंमा 'कला'। दोलखालीले राम्रोलाई 'बाँलकु' भन्छन् भने काठमाडौंमा 'बाँला' भनिन्छ। त्यस्तै मिठोलाई 'साकु' भनिन्छ भने काठमाडौंमा 'सा' मात्रै भन्छन्। डराउनेलाई दोलखालीले 'ग्याफर' भन्छन् भने काठमाडौंका नेवार 'ग्याफ' भन्छन्।२०५२ मा तत्कालीन दोलखा गाविस अध्यक्ष रविभक्त श्रेष्ठ, वकिल प्रविण प्रधान, शिक्षक भरत श्रेष्ठ, तीर्थनारायण जोशी र शान्तकृष्ण श्रेष्ठलगायत मिलेर 'कुल्सी परिवार गठन' गरिएको थियो। यसले 'कुल्सी हवाई पत्रिका प्रकाशन गथ्र्यो, जसका सम्पादक तीर्थनारायण जोशी थिए। चार वर्ष प्रकाशन भएको पत्रिकाले दोलखा भाषाको संरक्षण र प्रचारमा सहयोग पुर्‍याएको थियो। आफ्नै लिपि नभएकाले देवनागरी लिपिमै त्यो पत्रिका छापिन्थ्यो।
केही समयपछि यही उद्देश्यले 'बाँपीझ्याला' पत्रिका पनि प्रकाशन हुन थाल्यो। कालान्तरमा दुवै पत्रिकाले विश्राम लिए। केही समयपछि 'अभयपुर' मासिक पत्रिका दोलखा भाषा र राष्ट्रिय भाषामा प्रकाशन भयो। यसअघि पनि कालिञ्चोक युथ क्लबको आँखा, द्वाल्खा गुठीको स्मारिका, तिलिञ्चो परिवारको 'चिमाल' प्रकाशन भएका थिए। आँखा पत्रिका अझै प्रकाशन भइरहेको छ।

काठमाडौंमा नेवार

त्रिरत्न मानन्धर, इतिहासविद्
नेवार जाति होइन, समुदाय हो। यो समुदायभित्र थरिथरिका जाति छन्। उनीहरू काठमाडौंमा कहिले आए भन्ने ऐतिहासिक प्रमाण भेटिएको छैन। वंशावलीलाई आधार मान्दा नेपालको पहिलो राजवंश गोपालवंश (३८ सय वर्ष पहिलेको) हो। अहिले पनि चित्लाङ, कीर्तिपुर, मत्स्य गाउँ, बज्रबाराही र मातातिर्थमा गोपाली जातिको बस्ती छ। नेवार समुदायभित्रका उनीहरू आफूलाई गोपालवंशको मान्छन्। नेपाल भाषामा उनीहरूलाई 'सापु' भनिन्छ। 'सा' को अर्थ गाई हो भने 'पु' को अर्थ पाल्ने। त्यसैले, गोपालवंशलाई पहिलो नेवार समुदाय मान्न सकिन्छ।
गोपालवंशको राज्यकाल करिब ५ सय वर्ष मानिएको छ। त्यसपछि डेढ सय वर्ष महिषपालको राज्य चल्यो। उनीहरूपछि किराँतहरूले अन्दाजी १२ सय वर्ष शासन गरे। इसाको पहिलो शताब्दीदेखि ९ औं शताब्दीसम्म लिच्छिवी शासन चल्यो। लिच्छवीपछि मध्यकाल सुरु भयो। त्यो समयमा देव नामधारी राजाले शासन गरेको भनिन्छ। तर, उनीहरूको वंश निश्चित गर्न सकिएको छैन। इसाको १३ औं शताब्दीमा आएर मल्लकाल सुरु भयो।
इतिहासशिरोमणि बाबुराम आचार्यले लिच्छिवीहरूलाई ज्यापु मानेका छन्। प्रामाणिक तथ्य भनेको इस्वी संवतको दसौं शताब्दीको नेवारी लिपि भेटिएको छ भने भाषाको अभिलेख ११ औं शताब्दीदेखिको पाइएको छ। त्यतिबेला नेवार प्रबुद्ध समुदायका रूपमा स्थापित भैसकेको देखिन्छ। त्यसअघिका नेवारसम्बन्धी अभिलेख पाइएको छैन।
मल्लकालमा नेवारी भाषालाई नेपाल भाषा भनिन्थ्यो। त्यसले सरकारी मान्यता पाएको थियो। यसलाई देश भाषा वा राष्ट्रभाषा पनि भनिन्थ्यो। चौधौं शताब्दीका राजा जयस्थिति मल्लले पेसाका आधारमा नेवार समुदायको वर्गीकरण गरे। त्यो बेलाको नेपालमण्डलमा अहिलेका १२ जिल्लाका भूभाग पर्छन्- काठमाडौं, भक्तपुर, ललितपुर, नुवाकोट, धादिङ, रसुवा, काभ्रे, सिन्धुपाल्चोक, मकवानपुर, दोलखा, सिन्धुली र रामेछाप।
नेवारहरू काठमाडौंबाट बाहिरी जिल्लामा गएका देखिन्छन्। मल्लकालमा नेपाल ५० भन्दा बढी राज्यमा विभक्त थियो। मल्लकालको बीच (१७ औं शताब्दी) तिरै काठमाडौंबाट नेवारहरू पश्चिम नेपालतिर बसाइ सरेको पाइन्छ। पहिले-पहिले व्यापारिक प्रयोजनका लागि उनीहरू काठमाडौंबाहिर पुगेका थिए भने पछि राजा रणबहादुर शाहले धेरैलाई काठमाडौं उपत्यकाबाट पूर्वतिर लखेटे।
रणबहादुरको शासनकालमा (इस्वी संवत १७९९ तिरको घटना) काठमाडौं उपत्यकामा बिफरको महामारी फैलियो। एकपटक बिफर आइसकेकालाई फेरि बिफर आउँदैन। नआएका बालबालिकालाई आउने सम्भावना रहन्छ। बिफर सरुवा रोग भएकाले आफ्नो मन परेको छोरो गिर्वाणयुद्ध बिक्रमलाई बिफरले सताउला भनेर राजा डराए। त्यही भएर उनले बिफर नआएका सबै बालबालिकालाई काठमाडौं उपत्यका छोडेर तामाकोसीपारि जान उर्दी जारी गरे। परिणामः आफ्ना छोराछोरीसहित रुँदै-कराउँदै धेरै नेवारहरूले उपत्यका छोड्नुपर्‍यो।

Daimonji Gozan Okuribi is the most popular Obon events in Kyoto. It is the culmination of the O-Bon festival on August 16th yesterday (every year on 16th August), in which five giant bonfires are lit on mountains surrounding Kyoto city. It signifies the moment when the spirits of deceased family members, who are said to visit this world during O-Bon, are believed to be returning to the spirit world　thus the name Okuribi.　 Starting at 8PM, the giant bonfires are lit, each with a distinctive shape. Three of the fires form giant Chinese characters, and two form familiar shapes. The most famous and the first to be lit　is the character Dai, on Kyoto’s Daimonji-yama. The other four fires are lit at five to ten-minute intervals, and by 8:30, all the characters can be seen. Each bonfire lasts for 30 minutes. Daimonji on the Nyoigatake peak in Higashiyama, “Myoho” at Matsugasaki Nishiyama Higashiyama, “Funagata” at Nishigamo Funayama, Hidari Damonji at Daihokusan near Kinkaku - ji Temple, and Toriigata at Senojisan in Saga are all lit up together for this poetic summer event in Kyoto.

Bhairab Kumari Jatra

Bhairab Kumari Jatra is one of the major religious celebrations in Dolakha. Every year Bhairab-Kumari Jatra starts on the next day of the Gaijatra. The festival consist of masked dances that go on non stop for five days every year, which has started from August 7th in this year and finished yesterday night. Thirty-two persons dressed in costumes, including that of 'Bhairab' and 'Kumari', move around the market and temples with dancing in martial style. Dolakha bazaar was busy with devotees arriving from different parts of the country to observe the Jatra. On the occasion, devotees also undergo fasting and worship Bhairab and Kumari. The festival started about 500 years ago and has great religious significance.

कालिन्चोक मन्दिर रहेको डाँडाको फेदैमा रहेको कुरी ठाउँ प्राकृतिक सौन्द्रयले भरिभराउ भएको ठाउँ हो । झन चैत्र - बैशाख महिना तिर यस् ठाउँमा चिमाल फूल फुल्दा त यस्को सुन्दरता नै अर्कै हुन्छ । यस् ठाउँमा दुई साना खोलाहरु बग्नु को साथै यस् ठाउँको बिच तिर जोगी को कुटी पनि छ । र त्यस कुटीमा सधैं भरी ( बर्षको बार्है महिना ) एक जोगी बाबा ध्यान मग्न भइरहन्छ । जाडो महिनामा प्रायजसो हिउ पर्ने हुँदा मानिसहरुको बसोबास त्यहा छ / सात महिना मात्र हुने गर्दछ । यस् ठाउँ समुन्द्र सतह देखी कारीब ३४०० मि को उचाइमा रहेको छ । र त्यहा केही साना तिना होटेल र पसलहरु पनि छन जस्ले गर्दा कालिन्चोक मन्दिर जानेहरुलाई केही भए पनि सजिलो भएको छ । त्यहा मिठो छुर्पी पनि खान पाईन्छ है । दोलखाबजारबाट करीब सात / आठ घण्टाको ठाडो उकालोको पैदल यात्रागरे पछी यस् ठाउँमा पुग्न सकिन्छ । करीब ३७०० मि को उचाइमा रहेको कालिन्चोक मन्दिर दर्शन गर्न जाने भक्तजनहरु यस ठाउँमा बास बस्ने गर्दछन र भोली पल्ट बिहानै उठी कालिन्चोक भगवती को दर्शन गर्न जान्छन । कालिन्चोक भगवती मन्दिर को डाँडा पुग्न यस् ठाउँबाट करिब २/३ घण्टाको ठाडो उकालो चर्नु पर्छ । र यस् ठाउँमा पुग्ने जो कोही पनि आनन्दित हुनेगर्दछन ।

दोलखा बजारस्थित पशुपति महादेव मन्दिरको जीर्णोद्धार गर्नुपर्ने अवस्थामा हुँदापनी, यस्मा कसैको ध्यान गएको देखिदैन । तर दोलखा कै स्थानिय केही समुहहरु मिलेर पशुपति महादेव मन्दिरको जीर्णोद्धार गर्न सहयोग सकलन गर्ने उद्दश्यले काठमाडौंमा जुलाई १८ मा "दोलखा सांस्कृतिक साँझ" गरिएको थियो । दोलखा म्यास मुचा खलक, दोलखा चेली बचत तथा ऋण सहकारी संस्था एवं नेप्लिज फेसन होमले संयुक्त रुपमा आयोजना गरेको उक्त कार्यक्रममा विभिन्न गायक-गायिकाले आफ्ना लोकप्रिय गीत-संगीत प्रस्तुत गरेका थिए । दोलखाकै युवा गायक दीपक स्वप्निलको गायनबाट प्रारम्भ भएको उक्त कार्यक्रममा गायिका रेश्मा सुनुवारले 'मै ठूली भइछु रे' गीत गाउँदा प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठानको प्रेक्षालयमा भेला भएका दर्शक नाच्न थालेका थिए । कार्यक्रममा बालगायक कुणाल श्रेष्ठ लगायत अशोक राई, धीरज राई, विजय लामा, निर्णय श्रेष्ठ, उदय सोताङ, गायिका मनिला सोताङ, प्राश्ना शाक्य आदिले करिब तीन घण्टासम्म विभिन्न गीत गाएर दर्शकलाई मनोराजन प्रदान गरेका थिए। हास्यकलाकारद्वय जितु नेपाल तथा नारद खतिवडाको समसामयिक प्रहसनले दर्शकहरुलाई हँसाएको थियो। कार्यक्रममाविभिन्न नृत्य पनि प्रस्तुत गरिएको थियो । यस कार्यक्रमबाट प्राप्त हुने सहयोगले चाँही यो पशुपति मन्दिरको जीर्णोद्धार पक्कै हुन्छ होला भन्ने विश्वाश गर्दछु ।

Kyoto Gion Festival - 2009

The Gion Festival is over 1100 years old and is the most spectacular of the ceremonies involving Yasaka Shrine. It originates from an epidemic in the year 869 when the chief priest of the Yasaka shrine led a procession of citizens throught the city trying to placate the gods and praying for an end to the plaque - the epidemic subsided, and the festival has been popular ever since. The festival begins July 2nd each year. On this day the portable shrines known as Mikoshi are hauled from their storage sheds and blessed. The most important Mikoshi is carried down to the Kamogawa river on July 10th and is purefied in a ceremony conducted by the chief priest. The Mikoshi is then carried back to Yasaka Shrine on the shoulders of the same young men who brought it to the river. Also on July 10th, three Mikoshi are carried from the shrine to City Hall and the festival starts. Carrying lanterns on very long poles and wearing traditional dress, the participants escort the Mikoshi in a parade and dance groups perform in front of the City Hall. The main part of the festival is from July 14th to 17th. For the first two days the festival carts are lined up in Shijo-dori west of the river - you can get up close and have a good look. There is music and fun every night. On the morning of the third day the parade begins and many carts, mikoshi and other floats parade along Kawaramachi-dori and Oike-dori streets. If you have the money, you can reserve seats in stands set up along Oike-dori (need to be quick though). All in all it is a colorful and exciting festival. There are two kinds of floats: yama and hoko. Yama are smaller floats (weight: 1.2 ton - 1.6 ton, height: about 6m) and carried by people on their shoulders. Hoko are giant floats (weight: 4.8 ton - 12 ton, height: about 25m) on large wooden wheels and pulled by people. There are 32 floats in the procession: 25 yama floats and 7 hoko floats. The most interesting thing to see during Yamahoko-junko is the turns of big floats called tsujimawashi take place in intersections. Men pulling the floats chant loudly, "yoi, yoi, yoi to sei" accompanied with traditional Japanese music played by people who are on the floats.

The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) is a consortium of 42 leading research universities in the Pacific Rim. The consortium aims to foster education, research and enterprise thereby contributing to the economic, scientific and cultural advancement of the Pacific Rim. APRU was founded in 1997, in Los Angeles, USA, by a group of Pacific Rim university leaders to enable member universities to contribute to the development of a prosperous and progressive Pacific Rim community. Started in 2000, the APRU Doctoral Students Network (APRU DSN) is a self-governed graduate students' organization under the umbrella of APRU. The APRU DSN aims to connect doctoral students in the Pacific Rim and further research dialogues through the annual APRU Doctoral Students' Conference (APRU DSC). The 10th Annual Association of Pacific Rim Universities Doctoral Students Conference (APRU DSC) was successfully finished from 6 to 10 July, 2009 at the Clock Tower Centennial Hall of Kyoto University in Japan. The Kyoto University (KU) Organizing Committee of the Conference called for papers at the 10th APRU DSC. Doctoral students from all disciplines were invited to attend and present papers related to their doctoral research. I also joined this conference from Kyoto University. Five hundred seventy five (575) abstracts were submitted for this conference and for the final participants only 96 papers were accepted for this conference. The selection process was highly competitive. My paper was also accepted for this conference. The main theme of the 10th APRU DSC was "Promoting Originality and Diversity in Research."

दोलखामा मनाइने विभिन्न जात्राहरु मध्य ९ दिन सम्म परम्परागत रुपमा मनाउदै आइरहेको मच्छिन्द्रनाथ जात्रा पनि प्रमुख जात्रा हो । माच्छिन्द्र नाथ रथ जात्रा दोलखामा कसरी सुरुवात भयो त यस्को सुरुवात गर्ने व्यक्ति को हुन् ? यो इतिहासको गर्व भीत्र नै छ । हालसम्म इतिहास खोजविन कर्ताहरुले पत्ता लगाउन सकेका छैनन् । खोजी निति गर्ने क्रममा अहिलेसम्म भेटिएको ऐतिहासिक प्रमाण अनुरुप वि. स. १६३८ (ने. स. ७०१) चैत्र कृष्ण पक्ष परेवाका दिनमा ओमवहालका भीक्ष्ाहरुले चढाएको सुर्वण प्रभा र छत्र देखिन आएको छ । तसर्थ यी प्रमाणहरुले पनि हामीलाई के देखाउछ भने वि. स. १६३८ पुर्व धरै वर्ष जात्रा सँग थामी जातीहरुको सम्बन्ध भएकोले के देखिन्छ भने किराँतको एक हाँगा थामीको सम्वन्धबाट दोलखामा बौद्ध धर्मको प्रचार सँगसंगै किराँतकालताका देखिनै त भएको हैन ?
आफ्नै पनको गाथा बोकेको यस जात्रा वास्तबमा कुन देवता हो त भन्ने क्रममा दोलखाली हिन्दुहरुले गोरखानाथको गुरु, लोकनाथ, करुणामय, आदीनाथ, लोकेश्वरको रुपमा मान्दै आएको भन्दछन् भने बौद्ध धर्मलाम्वीहरु वोधी सत्व, अवलोकितेश्वरको रुपमा मान्नेगरेको हो भन्दछन् । धार्मीक सहिष्णुता रहेको नेपाल परापुर्वकाल देखिनै सहिष्णुता रहेको यसले प्रमाणित गर्दछ ।
हिन्दु धर्म अनुसार पौराणीक काल सत्ययूगमा भगवान् महादेवले पार्वतीलाई योग सिकाउने विचारले कसरी पृथ्वीमा वस्ने मानिसहरु चिरन्जीवी हुन सक्दछन् भन्ने वारे बुझाउन समुन्द्रको किनारमा योग सिकाई रहदा पार्वती पुग्छीन् र समुन्द्र भीत्र रहेको माछाको गर्व भित्र रहेका माछाको भुराले यो कुरा सुने पछी मैले सुने भन्ने आवाज बाट जोसँग भएका महादेवले पछी माछाका भुरालाई मानिस जस्तै हुन सकेस भन्ने बरदान दिई कैलाश जानु भएछ । यसरी मत्स्य गर्वबाट आफ्नो प्रतिष्ठा फैलाउन सक्ने मछिन्द्रनाथ योग विधाको निम्ती प्रमुख गुरु मानियो र उनैको सहयोगको खातिर महादेव आफु गोरखनाथको अवतार लिएर मच्छिन्द्र नाथलाई सहयोग पुर्याएको धार्मिक कथन छ ।
पछी लिच्छवी राज्य गुणकामनादेवको पालामा गुरु गोरखनाथ रिसाएर सम्पूर्ण नागको आशन वनाएर वस्नु भए पछी नेपालमा ठूलो हाहाकार मच्चियो । आकाशबाट एक थोपा पानी परेन ठूलो अनिकाल लाग्यो । तान्त्रीक विधीबाट हेर्दा गोरखनाथका गुरु मच्छिन्द्र नाथलाई नेपाल ल्याउन सकिएमा त्यो बाधा हट्छ भन्ने कुरा थाहा पाए पछि राजा तान्त्रीक एकजना किसान ज्यापु समेत गएर मच्छिन्द्र नाथलाई रिझाएर नेपाल ल्याए । आफ्नो गुरुको नेपाल आगमनको कुरा सुनेपछि गोरखानाथले दर्शन गर्न उठे पछि सम्पूर्ण नागहरु मुक्त भएर नेपालमा पानी पर्‍यो अब अनिकाल रहेन । तसर्थ त्यही सम्झना स्वरुप नेपाल भित्रिएको रुपमा रथमा राखेर बाजा गाजा सहित रथ तानिएको हो भन्ने प्रचलन प्रचलित छ । दोलखामा पनि सोही रुपमा अन्नदाताको रुपमा मान्ने प्रचलन प्रचलित छ ।

एतिहासिक नगर दोलखा बजारमा प्रत्यक बर्ष चलिआएको रातो मच्छेन्द्रनाथको रथ जात्रा यस बर्षको जात्रा पनि बैशाख ६ गते सम्पन्न भएको छ । यो रथ जात्रा दोलखा बजारको सबै टोलहरुमा रथ तानी जात्रा गरिन्छ । यो जात्रा नौ दिन सम्म संचालन हुने गरेकोमा यस् बर्ष रथको पाङ्ग्रा बिग्रेर दुइदिन सम्म रथ जात्रा हुन नसकेपछि यो जात्रा एघारौं दिनमा सम्पन्न भएको थियो । चैत्र २७ पूर्णिमाको दिन रातो मच्छिन्द्रनाथलाई गुरुजुंले पानी र दुधले महास्नान गरी पुजा गरेर जात्रा आरम्भ गरेको थियो । त्यसको भोलीपल्ट रथलाई डोकलुंगाटोलबाट पिङल टोल सम्म रथ तानेर जात्रा गरिन्छ　। त्यसपछि क्रमैसंग पिङल टोलवाट नकछेँ टोल नकछेँ टोलवाट कोर्छेटोलः कोर्छेटोलवाट टसिचाटोल टसिचाटोलवाट माथिल्लो बुद्धस्तुपा बुद्ध स्तुपाबाट दुंगलटोल हुंदै दुंगलटोलबाट पिङल टोलमा रथ पुर् याएर जात्रा सम्पन्न गरिन्छ । जात्राको अन्तिम दिन रातो मच्छिन्द्रनाथलाई रथबाट निकाली विधिपूर्वक पुजा गरेर देवताको मूर्तिलाई बोकी दोलखा बजारको मूल बाटो परिक्रमा गराई देवलमा राखिन्छ । परापुर्व कालंदेखि अहिले सम्म संचालन भइरहेको रातो मच्छिन्द्रनाथको रथजात्रा २०३९ सालं देखि गुठीबाट आउनु पर्ने जिन्सी नगद र जनश्रम नआएपछि १६ बर्ष सम्म रथ जात्रा रोकियो । तर रातो मच्छिन्द्रनाथलाई खटमा राखेर भएपनी जात्रा चलाएको थियो । पछि स्थानिय समुदायको सहयोगमा र स्थानय कालिन्चोक युवा क्लवको पहलमा पुन २०५५ साल देखि रथ बनाई रथ जात्रा गर्ने परम्परा कायम गरेको छ । जुन अहिले सम्म चलिरहेको छ ।

Yak is the most wonderful, multipurpose, domesticated strong animals found in the Himalaya areas of Nepal. Many yaks can be found in high altitude ranges of Dolakha district. Yaks are well adapted to the cold harsh climate conditions of the high altitude ranges and well integrated with socio cultural life of the people living there. Yak husbandry is one of the important and indispensable aspects of the Sherpa's life in the high altitude rangelands of Nepal. Currently, about 56,488 yak and yak-cattle hybrids are present in Nepal and are distributed in the highlands of the 14 northern districts. Yak population in Nepal is declining (about 200 thousand yak and hybrids in 1961) at an alarming rate due to lower economic benefits derived from yak husbandry. In addition, the more educated youth of the Sherpa community is unwilling to remain in traditional yak husbandry because of more lucrative opportunities in the trekking industry. Yak is one of a few domesticated animals that can survive in a cold and low oxygen environment that result in a low input feeding system. They have strong limbs, small solid hooves with hard edges and a narrow hoof fork that make them ideal for carrying heavy loads to supply both local and tourism demands in the rugged and snowy terrains of the Himalayas. As there is no suitable substitute animal for carrying such loads, yak and its hybrids remain an indispensable part of the trekking industry above 2500 meters above sea level.

Fujinomori Matsuri (May 1- May 5)

Fujinomori Matsuri (Festival) is celebrated at Fujinomori Shrine, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto. On the 3rd, Fujimori-Taiko (drum beating) is demonstrated from 2 pm to 3 pm in the precincts. On the 5th, a parade of Musha Gyoretsu (warriors' procession) and Mikoshi (portable shrines) starts from the Shrine at 9 am, marching through the town and returns to the Shrine at around 6 pm. Kakeuma-Shinji (acrobatic horseback riding) takes place at 1 pm & 3 pm, and Kagura (Shinto music & dance) is performed from 5 pm to 8 pm. The place can be reached by 10 min walk from the Sumizome Station of Keihan railway Line.

Daimonji Yama

Daimonji is the first of the five mountains to be set alight. The kanji that means large is written on Nyoigatake (Daimonji Mountain). There are various explanations about the origin of these bonfires, but it is said that the tradition began between three and five hundred years ago. On August 16 at night, there is a fire festival, in which wood is burned off in almost a hundred separate bonfires in a certain pattern. I went hiking to the top of the Daimonji yama during the golden weak holiday. There is a large clearance in the forest on this, giving the best viewing spot of the Kyoto area.View of Kyoto from the top of Yama.

The Rainbow Bridge is a suspension bridge over the Tokyo Port, located on the northernmost part of Tokyo Bay, connecting the Shibaura Wharf and the new waterfront development area, known as Odaiba in Minato-ku ward, Tokyo.This new symbol of the bayside Tokyo, completed in 1993, is 570m (1870 ft.) in length and carries three lines of transportations; Metropolitan Expressway No. 11 Odaiba Route on the upper deck, Route 357, also known as "Rinkou Douro" (Portside Avenue) and the Yurikamome New Transit on the lower deck. It is also possible to walk across the bridge at times when the walkway is open.The towers supporting the bridge are white in color, designed to harmonize with the skyline of central Tokyo seen from Odaiba. There are lamps placed on the wires supporting the bridge, which are illuminated into three different colors, red, white and green every night, using the solar energy obtained during the day.

Scientific Best Research Award to Nepalese Researchers

53rd Annual Meeting of Hydraulic Engineering was held in Shibaura Institute of Technology from 4 to 6 March, 2009. Every year this Annual Meeting is organized by Committee on Hydroscience and Hydraulic Engineering, Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) in Japan. Annual Journal of Hydraulic Engineering is published by same committee which covers recent research in Japan on different topics related to hydrology, hydraulics and environment. The research paper can be published in either English or Japanese language. Most of the foreign researcher used English language. On the first day of Annual Meeting, JSCE organizes award ceremony every year.
In this year two Nepalese researchers got these prestigious awards including me for my paper entitled ‘Numerical simulation of debris-flow with driftwood and its capturing due to jamming of driftwood on a grid dam’ published in Annual Journal of Hydraulic Engineering published in this year 2009 was awarded by “Best Paper Award” in International Session.

Another award winner is Dr. Ripendra Awal and his professors (co-authors) were awarded “Hydraulic Engineering Paper Award – 2008” for his paper entitled ‘An integrated approach to predict outflow hydrograph due to landslide dam failure by overtopping and sliding’ published in Annual Journal of Hydraulic Engineering in 2008. Currently Dr. Awal is working as a research associate in Kyoto University after finishing his PhD in Civil and Earth Resources Engineering.

Nanzenji Temple, Kyoto, Japan

Nanzen-ji is considered the most famous and important Zen temple in the world. Home of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism the temple consists of 12 sub-temples, which only a few are open to the public. Also within the temple grounds are several gardens, of which only three are available to be viewed. Two of the sub-temples also serve vegetarian lunches.
Emperor Kameyama (1249-1305) built his detached palace here in 1264. He later became a student of the Zen Master Busshin Daimin Kokushi, and he dedicated the palace as a Zen temple in 1291. Nanzenji went on to become one of the Five Great Zen Temples of Kyoto. As the headquarters of the Nanzenji branch of the Rinzai school of Zen, it is also one of the most important Zen temples in the world. Throughout its history, the abbot of Nanzenji was always chosen as the best Rinzai Zen Master in each period. Rinzai Zen was introduced to Japan by the Chinese priest Ensai in 1191 and emphasizes the use of koans, paradoxical puzzles or questions that help the practitioner to overcome the normal boundaries of logic. The 15th-century Onin Civil War demolished the original temple buildings, but some were rebuilt during the 16th century. The temple's large entrance gate (Sanmon) was completed in 1628.

सेङ्चा बौद्ध चैत्य : दोलखा नजिकै फुलणमा बौद्ध चैत्य रहेको छ । कुनै इतिहास प्रमाण फेला पर्न त नसकिए पनि यस चैत्यलाई दोलखाको सबैभन्दा पुरानो चैत्य मानिन्छ । चैत्यको भग्नावशेषको रुपमा रहँदा त्याहा देखिएका दुभाहरू असल खालको देखिएको थियो । पछि तत्कालीन गाबिस को वजेटले पुनः निर्माण गरे पछि यस्तो हुनु पर्ने कला कृति नष्ट भै आधुनिक सिमेन्टको नव निर्मित जस्तै भाव विहीन देखिन आएको छ ।

दुङलटोलको बौद्ध चैत्य : कुनै शिलापत्र नभएको यो बौद्ध चैत्य राम्रो चक्रावती रहेको भग्नावशेषको रुपमा रहेको थियो । चक्रावतीको कला हेर्दा यो चैत्यले पुरातात्विक हिसाबले पहिला अत्यन्त आर्कषक थियो होला । हाल केही वर्ष यता काठमाण्डौं बासी शाक्य बन्धुहरुको आर्थिक साहयताबाट पुनः निर्माण भए पछि यस्को पनि पुरातात्विक समृद्धी नष्ट भएको छ । रातो तेलिया इँटले रातो देखिने चैत्य सिमेन्ट र बनाउने ढुभ्ा नपुगेर आधुनिकता देखिएको छ । स्मरण रहोस् दोलखाको सम्पूर्ण चैत्यहरु रातो रभ्को हुने गरेको थियो ।

कोर्छेको बौद्ध चैत्य ठूलो : यो चैत्य बास्तु र मुर्तीकलामा विशिष्ठ देखिन्छ । पुरातात्विक विभागले पुनः निर्माण गर्नु भन्दा अगाडी नै यहुको चक्रावली विग्रीसकेर अवशेषको रुपमा केही मात्र बुकी थियो । पछि पुरातात्विक विभागले पुनः निर्माण गरेपछि केही नमिल्दो आकारको रुपमा देखिन आएको छ । पछि चक्रावली हाल्न आश्वासन दिएर गएको पुरातत्व विभाग १५ आंै वर्ष गैसक्दा पनि फर्केर आएको छैन हाल गुम्वामात्र छ चक्रावली छैन । कोर्छेको बौद्ध चैत्य सानो पूर्ण भग्नावशेषको रुपमा केही ढिस्कोको रुपमा मात्र रहेको यो चैत्य दोलखा स्थित तिलिंचो परिवारको सकृयतामा नगर पलिकाको अनुदानबाट पुनः निर्माण गरिदाखेरी अत्यन्त कलात्मक धातुको मुर्तीहरु लगायत माटाको बौद्ध चैत्य आकारको चैत्य भेटिएको थियो । हाल संरक्षणको निम्ती भीमेश्वर भण्डारमा राखिएको छ । उक्त पुनः निर्माण आधुनिक ढंभ्बाट नै भयो । हाल चारै दिशामा मुर्ती विहीन छ ।

नकछें सेङटोल चैत्य : यो धर्मधातु चैत्य काठमाण्डांैको स्वंयभूुको शैलीमा निर्माण भएको थियो । त्यसैले उक्त टोलको नाम नै सिम्भूटोल राखिएको छ जसलाई स्थानिय भाषामा सेरुटोल भनिन्छ । यो स्तुप आधा ढुभ्ा र आधा तलिया इँटले बनेको थियो । चक्रावती छत्र भने झिर्ण भै बिगि्रसकेको थियो । पछि स्थानिय संस्था कालिन्चोक युवाक्लवको सकृयतामा पुनः निर्माण गरिएको छ । चक्रावली भने हाल्न नसकेर इँटको बनाएको छ । उक्त निमार्ण सहयोग सामाजिक सेवा राष्टिूय समन्वय समितीको अनुदानबाट भएको थियो र निर्माण पनि गरीएको छ ।

मन्जुश्रीः यो चैत्यको रुपमा नरहेर मन्दिरको रुपमा छ । जसलाई स्थानिय वासिन्दाले सरस्वतीको रुपमा मान्ने गर्दछन् । यसै ठाउँमा मन्जुश्री आएर बसेको किम्वदन्ती छ ।

धर्मधातु चैत्य डोकछें : चैत्यहरु मध्ये ऐतिहासिक प्रमाण भेटिएको चैत्य हो । दोलखाका प्रसिद्ध शासक जयनारायण देवले ने स ६६९ ( विस १६०६ ) मा निर्माण गर्न लगाएका हुन् । चैत्यमा छत्राकारको सुनको गजुर रहेको छ । राजपरिवार र भारदारहरुले चढाएको ९ वटा चक्रावली लहरै रहेको छ । अक्षेभ्य आदि विभिन्न मुद्राका बुद्धका मुर्ती चारैतिर रहेको छ भने उत्तरतिर बुद्धमुर्तीमा सप्तफणी नाग पनि दर्शाएको छ । यस क्षेत्र वरी परी विहारछें टोल रहेकोले पहिला बौद्ध विहारहरु पनि थियो होला भन्न सकिन्छ ।

बज्रयोगीनी जोगीनी देउ : प्राचिनकालमा अत्यन्त राम्रो चैत्य थियो भन्ने किम्वदन्ती छ । हाल मन्दिर पनि छैन एक साने बौद्ध चैत्य छ । वेतालमाथी बसेको पात्र र खड्ग लिएका माहाकालका खण्डित मुर्ती छ ।

आर्यवलोकितेश्वर मच्छीन्द्र नाथ : बौद्ध मार्गीहरुले आर्थवलोकितेश्वरको रुपमा गरीने मन्छीन्द्र नाथ रथ बनाएर तानीने गरीन्छ । यस्को स्थापना कहिले भयो भन्ने एतिहासिक प्रमाण केही छैन । तर ७०१ नs(१६३८ विस) ओमबहालका भीक्ष्ाहरुले चढाएको सुनको प्रभा हृदयफुलमा सम्वंत अंकित छ ।

Kalinchowk is famous but rarely visited by tourists, compared to other famous mountains in the Himalayas . It is located above an altitude of 3,842 m( 12,605 ft) and 18 km(11.2 mile) north from Dolakha bazar in Dolakha District. On the top of Kalinchowk is an open air Hindu temple dedicated to Kali, wife of God Shiva. A small pond, numerous Trishuls (tridents) and small bells are also seen around it. While looking from the peak, panoramic views of the Himalayan range leave one speechless. There are two peaks on Kalinchowk and an iron ladder connects one peak to another. You can see a broken house across it, which had been used for Hindu pilgrims. A small hill is behind it.

Kuri, where we have to stay at night, from here it takes 3/4hrs to reach Kali temple at top of mountain peak.

Mythical Dolakha

Dolakha has it all for the inquiring and the attentive. If you are with someone who knows the area like his palm-lines, there is every chance that you will soon understand the changing ethos of the place. The town`s neat and well-regulated life steeped in age-old traditions.
In ancient times when Nepal had a profitable trade relationship with Tibet, this was the route that merchants used. It was then that this town rose to prosperity. There are still some houses belonging to those times. According to some elders, the town has more or less faithfully maintained its past appearance. Apparently, as soon as trade and commerce dried up, Dolakha ceased to age. Despite the time-ravaged houses, the town is young, and so are its sons who constitute one of the most reliable work forces for odd jobs in Kathmandu.

When Laxman was injured and the great ape-god Hanuman was asked to bring a certain medicinal herb for the rescue, the mighty ape-god hovered on the sky above Dolakha, say the locals. Probably the beauty of the region dulled his sense of judgement and he ended up taking a chunk of a hill near the Gaurishanker mountain. You can still see a chunk missing there. And even though you cannot clearly make out the pointed spot due to the distance, you will be surprised to find that your mind has all of a sudden acquired extra creativity. In a flash of a second, you have conjured up the image of the ape-god performing that wondrous feat.
That is not all. The Bhimeswor temple is not a new name to the god-fearing throughout the nation. People pour in every week from the capital and from various other districts to offer prayers to the God. During their visit, they don`t forget to ask one famous question, "Is the God sweating?" For they all have heard that if Bhimeswor sweats, that means something big is to happen. And that may be good or bad. Legend has it that the despairing Lord Shiva traveled though this area, carrying the corpse of His beloved Sati Devi. The corpse of the goddess had decayed so badly that a piece of her flesh detached and fell down the gorges immediately north of Dolakha. Thus sprang up the temple of Tripura Sundari. Talk to the priest and he will confide that a certain golden icon was stolen from this beautiful temple years ago. Hence, the misfortune that has befallen the country ever since.
Though decrepit with lack of maintenance, the Manjushree Park. will spring up to life as soon as you step in. It will start whispering love-poetry through the branches of its old and wise trees. If you have an inclination to pen down verses, you might even end up writing some poems. But be careful, the ground is slippery. The dry grass will try its best to upset your balance. But then, it is a harmless mischief. Even if you slip and fall down six times or even a dozen times as I did, don`t curse the area. For there are forest-gods hovering around, and you might end-up infuriating them. Quite naturally, as Dolakha has been at peace since a long time.

Lapchi Monastery, Dolakha

Lapchi Monastery (Mane) is located at Boch-6 in Dolakha District. This monastery is nearly 400 years old and survived the Cultural Revolution. It is dedicated to the Great Milarepa. Inside is a bronze figure of him. It is said that this figure was made by Rechungpa (his disciple) from his masters nosebleed. Another sacred relic is a stone taken from the site of Milarepa's death.
